Catherine Dormor

artist & researcher

Living in Cambridge, I am an artist, researcher and lecturer. My research considers the interplay between text and textile, practice and theory, seeking to challenge traditional hierarchies.  I hold a practice–thesis PhD from the University of the Arts London and Norwich University of the Arts.

My work involves textile, both as concept and as medium and incorporates photography, video and installation alongside textile techniques.

I exhibit internationally and across the UK and have work in private collections.   I have published papers, articles and reviews and am currently working on a book, A Philosophy of Textile: practice & theory, which is due for publication in 2015

I currently work in the Art & Design School at Middlesex University, where I teach across Design Craft, Fine Art and Fashion.  Additionally, I am the Research Coordinator for Textiles, Fashion & Craft, Convenor of the CREATE/feminism Research Cluster and Programme Leader for the new MRes Visual Cultures: practice & activism.
